Howell Cricket Academy : The academy is situated at Picturesque Tauranga in Bay of Plenty area near popular Mount Maunganui a popular tourist destination in Northern District. Academy is headed by John Howell an expert coach of national and international repute. John's contributions to development of New Zealand Cricket is significant and has many firsts to his name. He pioneered the first New Zealand Cricket Academy between 1991-95, followed it with setting up of New Zealand high performance cricket center at Lincoln University in 1996. He has strived towards and succeeded in implementation of international best practices in coaching in New Zealand. He was responsible for development of Cricket Coaches Association in New Zealand. His focus on initiation of Professional development courses for improving the standard of coaching with unique system for appraisal of coaches was a pioneering effort. John considers coaching youth a challenging and rewarding experience. Focus of the academy is towards development of professional cricketers as mature individuals, ranking high on quality cricketing skills, Discipline, Strategy and mental toughness, Physical Conditioning, Game preparedness, Maturity and Confidence building. Many of these qualities are instilled in the wards thru detailed interactions in a personalized coaching atmosphere. Academy provides Group Coaching and One on one coaching for players of all age groups. Academy Programs: 1) School Holiday Camps. 2) Specialist customized coaching for specific needs of clubs and schools. 3) Weekend Camps - Highly popular pre-season events utilized by various clubs to highlight their protocols for players and as a team building exercise.
